As opposed to the hand itself, the Palm is primarily linked with aspects of our future potential. This kind of palm reading is associated with the concept of predetermination, which views life as a destiny preordained in the higher order of reality. Hence the term, "things happen for a reason" or "it was their time to go" etc. The palm lines themselves, represent the fundamental concerns experienced in the course of a life, those being love, family, health, creativity, productivity and finally, longevity.
The palms of Palm Sunday prefigure Christ's resurrection after the tragedy of Calvary, and the palms borne by the Christian martyrs carry the same meaning. Similarly, the French box-sprig signifies sure belief in the immortality of the soul and in the resurrection of the dead. Jung makes it a symbol of the soul.
